Purpose: To review training material found online and analyze it from perspective of traditional Okinawan Karate and Modern Self-Defense. This training event is not about making fun of other styles, but about learning how to use online resources to further training.
Training Value:
- To teach students critical thinking and analysis skills
- To teach students that not everything found online is worthwhile knowledge
- To allow students to see what other Kata and material is out there
Requirements:
- Students must find the best “bad Kata” and download the files into an mp4 format
- Videos may be brought on a flash drive or CD/DVD
Activities:
- We will collectively review the Kata and analyze them for Bunkai possibilities
- Kata will also be vetted for practicality, efficiency of movement, and versatility
- This activities will reinforce the material students learn from the “Interpreting a Kata” lecture that is part of the Hoshin Kan Assistant Instructor / Leadership training
